There’s something for everyone – well, apart from hardcore rockers – in this blockbuster blog, almost live, from Leeds Arena. First up James – lead Tim Booth is rarely in one place for long and on this occasion he pushed past me to indulge in a crowd surfing session. I didn’t follow – there are limits, but I did get some decent shots in.
The music was great plus we were allowed the luxury of four songs, the audience was clearly loving it and there’s a great relationship there. James have a huge following, big support; useful for crowd surfing.
Next up, Kasabian who were good. I would wax more lyrical but let’s face it they’re always good, nothing new there and nothing out of the ordinary happened in the pit (it’s the Arena…we’re well disciplined) and in the three tracks I saw they definitely did the business.
In support were the Macabees who I really enjoyed and it’s great to see them doing so well.
Onto another James now, this year of the Blunt variety and sporting a boiler suit…not just any old boiler suit though this was a space themed set so the suit must have been agency approved. Topical though the Moon Landing tour may be, as far as I know this not part of the crowd-funding effort for the next, British-led lunar mission it’s just the latest terrestrial album launch.
Talking of which it took James a while to get going on the night, in fact he was only really getting into the swing by track four…as we were on our way out. It can’t be easy when you’ve got an all seater audience that you can’t really see but maybe next time he needs to take a leaf out of Elton John’s book. When he came to the Arena he was all eyes and teeth to the camera, selling it to the max and delivering from the off but then after all these years his audience are a pretty safe bet. Anyhow, that aside, James Blunt seems like a good guy and he’s had a different local support at every gig which I think is rather lovely.
So, finally, to today’s bonus….McBusted who stopped by at HMV yesterday where I finally got to photograph them. Kind of hilarious bearing in mind passes for the actual gigs were in very short supply. Never mind. I’m not bitter. They’re a nice bunch.
