Pulp’s hometown gig at Sheffield Arena.
On Friday the 14th July I was lucky enough to get a press pass for Pulp’s hometown gig at Sheffield Arena. For the support act of Richard Hawley I got to be right at the front in the pit and got some really great close up shots. Through my 70-200mm lens I even made eye contact with drummer Dean Beresford when he spotted me whilst playing!
For Pulp I had to move out of the pit and shoot from one side of the arena – just behind all the standing audience members – which is why I had my trusty step with me! Even from this platform I had to navigate some exceptionally tall fans! With my wonderful 3legged Thing Billy tripod operating as a monopod, I switched to using the excellent 180-400mm lens on loan from Nikon – thanks Rob!
I really love the shots I got of Jarvis silhouetted against what started out as a large moon, that became gradually more orange. He appeared in front of this back drop after rising up out of the stage in a very theatrical entrance! There’s no mistaking that iconic shape as anyone other than Jarvis Cocker. What a great night!
