The University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) supports businesses across the energy supply chain in entering the nuclear energy market. Research, development of new technologies and training of skilled apprentices are all part of the equation. Now though, the University has opened a new Midlands Nuclear AMRC facility just up the road in Derby to further extend the work already underway in Sheffield and in Birkenhead. I went along for the University to follow the crowd of around 150 regional manufacturers and stakeholders who attended the launch event.
With state of the art workshop facilities, demonstrations and high-level speakers there was plenty to keep people interested. For me it was great to be there on behalf of the university and see how the AMRC initiative is delivering for businesses across the region, as they work to become Fit for Nuclear. It was a very busy morning which went very quickly – always a sign of a successful event!
