Northern stars
I was in Manchester again this month photographing Elbow for Q magazine. Well spotted – this isn’t them…I can’t share those pictures yet sadly but fortunately I do have this bonus shoot to share. I’ve been over the Pennines a lot over the last year or so and a bonus of being on the periphery of the Manchester scene, is that you get to know a few people. Hence ending up at Mike Bennett’s studio with Stella Grundy and someone else you might recognise.
Having produced the likes of The Fall and Ian Brown Mike is a bit of a legend in his own right. Stella is described in her latest press release as “former Intastella front woman and cutting edge Mancunuan actress, singer, playwright and force of nature” and I’d say that’s pretty accurate. Bags of energy and about to release her latest solo work, The Rise and Fall of a Northern Star. As for the other chap in the picture well you might recognise him as Simon Wolstencroft, one-time drummer from The Fall, who I photographed for Q a few years ago. So we come full circle…Elbow pictures up next month but thanks to Mike, Stella and Si for a fun session…
