The Courteeners for NME.
The Courteeners live in Manchester: Fray and the gang cement their place among the greats
Last weekend I got a call up from NME to cover The Courteeners Live in Manchester. Terri Hall of Turner Hall, who represent the band had asked for me. I photographed The Courteeners a few times for Q magazine and when an opportunity like this crops up, it always feels like people are kind of appreciating the work. “With support from The Big Moon, Blossoms and Johnny Marr, the event was a celebration of the city’s musical heritage and future” (Rhys Buchanan, NME). Old Trafford was absolutely rammed but fortunately there was a swift route through to the pit. I joined other photographers there for the first three songs. Then I made my way stage-side. Advice from the tour manager helped me find the best positions to keep out of the way. There were loads of video people up there, delivering shots for the on-screen projection. It was great to be involved in such a brilliant event, so thanks to Terri for putting me forward.
Big thanks also to the St John Ambulance crew for letting me use their loo. You really are life savers.
