Back to school.

Much as I enjoy photography, that’s not where my creativity begins and ends and I love learning new skills. So when a friend invited me to join her on a leather crafting course I thought, yes, brilliant, let’s have a go. I was especially excited when I found out we’d be making and taking home a bag, as mine was on its last legs.

Our tutor on the course was Jason, who you might have seen on the BBC2 series Made in Great Britain. We learnt about traditional, tannery produced leather which is nine months in the making but uses none of the harmful chemicals associated with commercial leather production.

Following a pattern we cut out, punched, sewed and finished every part of our bags and the process was hugely satisfying. Thanks to Jason’s brilliant tuition, the end result looks amazingly professional. I even got to stamp my initials on the strap. Best of all I’m now using my beautiful, hand-made, leather shoulder bag every day. So thanks Jason, for introducing me to this wonderful craft…next project a new strap for my bass! https://www.diamondawl.co.uk https://www.jsyleatherworks.co.uk
