Fired up.
Take Off is the internal magazine for Manchester airport group which covers Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands airports. Working for them has taken me behind the scenes in all areas of airport life. This month they asked me to photograph ‘A week in the life’ of the Fire and Rescue team at Manchester. I followed a crew through a tour of the daily routines and checks and also training in CPR. Like any other fire crew they have their own gym so they can keep up their fitness in any downtime.
Seeing the different aspects of their working lives was certainly interesting from my point of view. I’m heading back for a follow-up visit to photograph the fire training, which, as far as possible, replicates real life conditions of tackling a blazing plane. Thanks to the team for being so co-operative and for being there as a first line emergency service for any of us who use the nation’s airports.
