KVH Studios creates tailored audio for in-store and broadcast promotion of some of the UKs biggest retailers. They’re currently in the midst of developing a new website for the business so this was perfect timing for KVH to move away from stock photography and develop their own picture library. A perfect opportunity also, for me to test drive Nikon’s new, mirrorless Z 6 camera alongside my trusty D5. I went along to recce the facilities and was really impressed with the extent of the operation, from sound booths to conference rooms, post production and video conferencing.

On the day, the Z 6 delivered a beautifully silent shutter action, perfect for the sound proof setting. I also took my daylight lamp to avoid using harsh and noisy flash as I photographed voiceover and interview session recordings. We captured shots with and without people to illustrate the quality of both the team and the facilities. Feedback following the job has been brilliant and all in all, it’s been great working with KVH. Interesting also to get an insight into the bespoke audio magazine programmes you hear in-store as you’re browsing. Plus the whole thing came through client recommendation which is always nice!

Final question for any fellow camera junkies out there – can you tell which shots are from the D5 and which are Z 6? In fact these are mostly D5 but the two just above the final shot are from the Z 6. Overall, I think the quality of the camera compares pretty well and it has been great exploring what a mirrorless system has to offer, so thanks also to Nikon for giving me the opportunity.
