Q Magazine ๐Ÿ’” I’ll Miss You

This week, will see the last ever edition of Q magazine hitting the newsagent shelves. For me, as a photographer and music fan this is just heart-breaking. When I started out as a professional, this was the magazine I aspired to work for. I kept trying and trying and finally, three picture editors in and a decade later, I got a foot in the door through the lovely Dave Brolan. Since then, my work has appeared in more than 20 Q magazines.

Q commissions were always an opportunity to work with some brilliant artists. There have been so many highlights. Drummer Simon Wolstencroft was lovely and we’ve kept in touch ever since; photographing Sleaford Mods before anyone knew who they were; great feature pieces like Stone Roses and Glass Animals. But also getting to hang out with bands in their own studios – Elbow, Everything Everything and Johnny Marr. And then, the Courteeners facing thousands of fans at Old Trafford, just days after the Manchester Arena bombing. That picture became a double page image and clinched my next job for the magazine, Arcade Fire the following week in Scunthorpe. The furthest I ever had to go was Glasgow to photograph Morrisey but honestly I would have been happy to shoot anyone, anywhere for the Q team. Big thanks to everyone at the magazine and hopefully, we’ll work together again at some point. It has been a blast.
